Kalugtan Arts Guild once again gets the support from the Municipal Government of El Nido as it celebrates the 7th Kalugtan Arts Festival on April 13-16, 2011.  The event opens on April 13 with an exhibit and registration of workshop participants in the morning followed by the opening ritual at night time.

There are guest artists coming from Manila, Puerto Princesa City and Tacloban City. Mario Lubrico and Frances  Mendoza will facilitate painting lessons. Atilano Buenavista will teach Terra Cotta Sculpture and Diwan Group will facilitate Percussion, Beadworks and Fire Dancing workshops. Tanya Sayajon will handle Theater, Eric Sister Videography while Leonard Reyes facilitates Photography. Cultural Center of the Philippines [CCP] awardee, Mideo Cruz, will join the rooster of facilitators for painting. Three-time Makata ng Taon Awardee and 2009 Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas, Tomas Agulto, will facilitate poetry.

This year’s arts festival adds new ideas and style as foreign artists comes to help. Susan Gibb from Australia will join performances and Diego Thomas from Sweden will facilitate Didgeridoo workshop. American Peace Corps Volunteers will also facilitate. Jerica Ward will conduct voice lessons, Lia Cheek will teach Violin and Sky Skach will teach participants how make bags out of plastic garbage.

Professors from the University of the Philippines [UP] will take care of the lectures. Dr. May Datuin will tackle Culture and Arts on April 14 while Dr. Victor Paz, Dean of UP Archaeological Studies Program discusses Archaeology in El Nido on April 15.

Kalugtan Arts Festival will celebrate Earth Day on the last day, April 16. There will be coastal clean-up, gathering of Crown of Thorns and installation of mooring buoys on in the morning. Graduation rites and recital of participants follow at 4PM. At night, there will be a Concert for Mother Earth featuring Lolita Carbon, of the legendary folk rock band ASIN, with the BOYZ.
